Our sober living program at Cedar Green was developed based on concepts & principles for sober living based on guidelines by SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. SAMHSA outlines four major dimensions to sober living that recovering addicts should be focused on as they learn to support their sobriety. These essential aspects of life are your Health, your Home, your Purpose, and your Community around you.
Your Health
Individuals should be making healthy decisions that support a life in recovery, including abstinence, proper nutrition & exercise, and managing stress, anxiety & depression.
Your Home
Those in recovery should have a safe, stable home where they are supported & live comfortably. The individual must feel secure in sharing and living out their beliefs.
Your Purpose
When in recovery, meaningful activities on a daily basis help develop independence & make you into a participating member of your community. This is essential to purposeful & meaningful living.
Your Community
Individuals in recovery should develop & maintain healthy relationships that provide support, love and friendship, and encourage sobriety. Social support of this type will really enrich your life.
These overall concepts align with many of the specific things that recovering addicts state are of the utmost priority to them and their successful sobriety. One comprehensive survey of individuals experiencing success in recovery reported that these priority items for addicts are sobriety itself, rewarding employment, personal relationships, education, life fulfillment, personal achievement, family reunification, emotional health, housing, helping others and resolving outstanding legal issues.
Not surprisingly, many of the basic Life Skills that recovering addicts must improve upon are essential to reaching the same goals that addicts state are important to them.
